The dashboard presents top 5 largest producing occupations across each sector. The indicators are number of jobs, growth, replacements and openings along with projection of each occupation using model developed by EMSI Burning Glass.

An understanding of occupation projection and historical trends can be useful in helping to identify future roles being produced at a local authority level. This can be particularly helpful when compared against the supply-side qualifications and subject areas of study dashboards to identify potential gaps.

  • Note: This data is updated in line with Lightcasts' update cycle.
  • Jobs: The number of occupied positions. This is not quite the same as workers because one worker might fill more than one position.
  • Job growth: It is the net (non-negative) change for each year, and is calculated at the lowest level and aggregated up. For these reasons, it often differs from job change as calculated by subtracting an earlier year's jobs from a later year's job counts. The growth metric is a component of the openings metric (growth + replacements = openings).
  • Job replacements: It is the number of existing jobs that are estimated to have been vacated in the year. Replacements takes into account job openings that are created but that are not due to growth in the occupation.
  • Job openings: It is the sum of growth and replacement, and it refers to the estimated number of job openings that exist both due to growth in the occupation and replacement needs in the occupation.
